Camp Able focuses on Horsemanship sessions specifically designed for each student’s goals. Beginner students will learn things such as mounting and dismounting, turning, stopping, and starting.  These tools help to develop motor skills, cognitive reasoning, and confidence!

What is Therapeutic Riding?

Therapeutic Riding (TR)

The term Therapeutic Riding describes an “equine-assisted activity” using horses to enhance the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of individuals with special needs. This process involves a certified instructor and volunteers guiding the participant through mounted or unmounted work around the horse to build skills, improve coordination, and promote overall health and independence.

Benefits of Therapeutic Riding

Therapeutic riding has physical, cognitive, and emotional benefits for participants such as improving balance, coordination, strength, self confidence, and socialization.

Cost?

  • Ability of a student or family to pay for services at Camp Able will never preclude a participant from services.
  • Sessions are priced based on a sliding scale.
  • Scholarships are available.

How long is a lesson?

  • Lessons are 60 minutes per session and scheduled on a weekly basis

Weight restrictions?

  • The weight restrictions are on a case-by-case basis. Each horse has an individual weight limit that is upheld for the welfare and longevity of our animals.
