What Families Ask Most Often
Starting therapeutic riding often comes with a lot of questions, and that's completely normal. Below are answers to the questions we hear most from families just getting started. If you don't see what you're looking for, our team is always happy to help.
-
Each Therapeutic Riding session is $60.
-
Camp Able's goal is that no rider will be turned away based on finances. We have a scholarship application available upon request. For more information, please contact Catherine Allen at catherinea@camp-able.org.
-
Sessions run between 8 and 12 weeks, depending on the season.
-
Due to a full schedule, we do not schedule make-up lessons for individuals. If the center has to cancel sessions, a make-up may be scheduled.
-
Please contact the Program Director, and they can get you in touch with your instructor. We ask that all communication be done via email so that we can respect the work-life balance of our instructors.
-
Therapeutic Riding sessions are 45 minutes. Equine Assisted Therapy sessions are 30 minutes.
-
Camp Able currently has a weight limit of 200 lbs for a balanced rider and 150 lbs for an unbalanced rider. Balanced versus unbalanced is determined by an instructor during the initial evaluation. These weight limits are set to protect our horses, staff, and volunteers. Please contact Catherine Allen at catherinea@camp-able.org for more information.
-
If your rider is over our weight limit, it does not mean they cannot participate, it just means they currently do not qualify for a mounted session. We have ground sessions they may still participate in.
-
In order to participate in therapeutic riding, riders must be at least 4 years of age.
